Our membership needs to grow if we are going to have the numbers to fight the
long battle to keep trails open for all of us now and for future generations.
We have already lost many trail opportunities.
The agencies need to hear
from each and everyone of us as they truly believe that we are a minority.
The Montana Wilderness Association is touting surveys showing that motorized
trail riders only account for 10% of back-country trail users. Therefore,
they reason, motorized trail use should not be a legitimate form of back
country recreation "IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH".
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to renew your membership
and/or join our group. We are an organization of Four Wheel Drive
enthusiasts who are dedicated to preserving our heritage of driving on public
lands, particularly BLM and National Forest areas around Helena. We provide
guidance to Four Wheelers in safe and courteous driving, proper vehicle
maintenance and a strong sense of individual responsibility as a
conscientious Four-Wheeling recreationist. We are a non-profit organization
that adheres to the Tread Lightly Program! "LEAVE EACH AREA VISITED IN AS
GOOD OR BETTER CONDITION THAN IT WAS FOUND" PUBLIC LANDS BELONG TO ALL OF
US TO RESPECT, PROTECT AND ENJOY.
Our goal is to keep the areas we now have available to us open for all
recreational uses. We can only do this if we have a large number of members.
It is important that we work as a group with the Forest Service and BLM
agencies. Our intent is to make the Forest Service aware of motorized
recreationists needs and to adequately factor those into their
decision-making process. In order to protect the great riding opportunities
that we have we need everyone's participation and comments. We have attended
many meetings, made proposals, and written comments to support motorized
recreationists. Work over the years has earned us the respect and dispelled
the "rip and tear" stereotype that many people have of the off-road
enthusiast. Our members have made a lot of victories for all of us as, but
we need your support so we can continue to stand our ground. Many of you
have driven this country for years and there are no better conservationists
than those who value their recreation so highly and take an active part in
preserving it.
We also do on-the-ground projects with the USFS such as trail maintenance,
GPS studies, erosion control, weed control, etc. Many projects are
volunteer, but some are funded with money provided by state and federal
trails grant programs.
FOR TOO LONG WE HAVE NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY ORGANIZED. PLEASE JOIN US TO DO
SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THERE'S NO TIME TO WASTE, THE WOLF IS AT THE DOOR. WE
ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION IN THE MAIL OR AT
THE NEXT MEETING. DON'T HESITATE TO SPREAD THE WORD TO YOUR FRIENDS.
WHAT ACTIVITIES DO WE DO?
* MONTHLY CLUB MEETINGS. (DISCUSS UPCOMING LOCAL AND STATE
EVENTS)
* MONTHLY TRAIL RIDES
* CLUB GET TOGETHERS (PARTIES, BARBECUES, GARAGE PARTIES, STATE WIDE
CAMPING OR RACING WITH 4-WHEELERS FROM ALL OVER
* CONSERVATION PROJECTS ALL OVER THE STATE
* YEARLY TRAIL RIDE SOMEWHERE IN MONTANA WITH 4-WHEELERS FROM ALL
OVER THE COUNTRY (THE BEST FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY)
* FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN DRAG RACING, MUD BOGGING, AND OBSTACLE
RACING THERE ARE SEVERAL EVENTS AROUND THE STATE DURING THE
YEAR.
* WE THINK THAT EXPLORING NEW AREAS WITH NEW FRIENDS SHOULD BE AN
IMPORTANT PART OF THE CLUB SO WE INVITE YOU TO BRING YOUR MAPS
AND PHOTOS TO EACH MEETING TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION AND SET-UP
RIDES.
THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE LIFE LONG FRIENDS AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO
SEEING YOU AT THE NEXT MEETING!
